Hi: I have several items stored in plastic bags including some carpets, cushions, suitcases, etc. in order to prevent dust from getting in them. Can they remain in their plastic bags (they are in black garbage bags). Thanks.

Hey Widad. That’s fine. This items can stay as is.

My mother lives in 10 Lago Norte, which is one of the stack units. I’ve been informed by the HOA that stack unit garages will not be fumigated at this time because they are newer and will be re-roofed at a later time. Can you confirm that the detached garages for stack units on Lago Norte will NOT be fumigated, and therefore no special preparations for items in the garage are necessary? We are planning to store some items that might otherwise need to be bagged in the garage.

    • Ozzie Camacho

Hey Melissa. None of the stand alone garage buildings are currently scheduled for fumigation. You can use your garage for storage as necessary during the fumigation.

      Reply
      • Mari Fujii

Note that the stack garage buildings *will* be tented, but at a much later time, and separately on a different schedule from the stack home buildings. It’s true that the flat roofs on the stack garage buildings (and on some of the townhomes) are a bit “newer” than our old shingle roofs — though not by much — and will be replaced later on, per the HOA’s Reserve Study schedule. But, the stack garage buildings will still be tented toward the end of the shingle roof project, as part of the HOA’s need to tent *all* buildings for termites, since tenting/termite eradication is long overdue. (The last time the HOA tented for termites was over 15 years ago in 2006-07.)

    1. Can you confirm that we have filled in the appropriate paperwork? We are at 2 Cerrito.
    2. We have a patio wood cover that is not connected to the building and is not original to the building. Can you let us know if this will be tented when 2 Cerrito is tented?

    Hi Ozzie,

    1) I have lots of plants on my courtyard entrance next to the garage and patio out side our master’s bedroom. Do I need to removed all of them and place them on the

green grass? I’m not sure what’s included in the tenting.

We’re scheduled on 10/4/23 for fumigation.

    2) Is there someone from Accurate coming to do inspection prior to fumigation?

We’ll be out of town for few weeks during that time and if that’s the case I can make make arrangements. Thank you.

    Reply
    • Ozzie Camacho

Hey Rachel. There is a high chance that those plants would be covered. That seems to have been the trend in your community. We recommend moving anything you wish to keep away from the fumigation. Inspectors do their checks on the very day of fumigation.

    Hi Team

I have question about bagging/not bagging items in zip lock. We have 2 kids 4 years and 14 months. Younger toddler likes to put everything in mouth. Do we need to pack the toys or leave them as is? What precaution should be taken post-fumigation with respect to cleaning/making sure that no remnant of the fumigant is left and can cause harm to kids?

    Reply
    • Ozzie Camacho

Hi Dharmendra. There is no need to double bag anything that is not considered edible or consumable. Toys can stay as is. The product we are using leaves no residual.

Hi Ozzie, question about items to be bagged/not bagged. I have 2 kids (4 yrs and 14 months old). We have lots of toys (some in xxlarge zip lock bags, some in plastic containers. Do we need to do anything specific to store them? My 14-month-old is teething and puts them (and anything that he sees fit) in his mouth. Hi Team, in the fumigation preparation video @10:30 and 11:00 it mentions that having the gas turned off and on for condos/multi family structures is handled by Accurate.

Is this correct for the people within stacked units?

Also the doc mentions having to nail the hot water heater door shut. Is there a preferred way to do this without causing damage?

    Reply
    • Ozzie Camacho

Hi Jenn. Correct, Accurate is scheduling gas shutoffs and restores on behalf of residents. Water heater closets may be nailed shut if the fumigators cannot secure the door by other means. Usually nailing the door shut is a last resort and is minimally invasive.

Such as taking out the shelves in your refrigerator and freezer to make more space to place your double-bagged food back in your refrigerator and freezer.

And what to do if you won’t be home on the 3rd and final day when the tents are removed, to let the SoCal Gas rep into your home to turn the gas back on and perform their safety checks in your home. (Answer: About a week before your building is scheduled for tenting, note the date of the final day of your tenting schedule and have your gas bill on hand. Then call SoCal Gas Company’s Customer Service at
909-307-7070 and give them your SoCal Gas account # and the combination of your lockbox that will contain your front door key. After they finish, they will return the key in your lockbox.)

I won’t be home on the third day when the tents are removed and the gas company rep comes by to turn the gas back on in my home. I’ve been told that I can call the gas company and give them the combination lock to my lockbox (which will be used to pass on my housekey to Accurate). But Accurate will leave my housekey from the lockbox inside my home. Should I leave 2 keys in the lockbox so that 1 remaining key will still be there for the gas company to use to enter my home?

My name is Jennifer Head i live at 12 Verde (the address field does NOT allow me to put in my address)

I asked the question on the day of the meeting December 9th and it’s still not clear…
    The Question is:

I live in a stacked unit my garage is separate ,,,, I would like to move my belongings out of my home into the garage safe from fumigation !

I would like to start putting things into the garage now so when I hire the movers to move the furniture it won’t be so costly…. I DON’t LIKE ANY CHEMICALS,

I would like to know now when would you tent my home? Approximately And will you tent the stacked unit garages at a different time … ?

    WHEN WOULD THAT BE ?

How much time between my home and the garage?

I AM PUTTING IN NEW FLOORING RIGHT AFTER FUMIGATION AND PAINTING … SO I NEED TO KNOW IF THIS CAN BE DONE AND HOW MUCH TIME DO I HAVE BETWEEN THE TWO,! PLEASE LET ME KNOW AS SOON AS YOU CAN

    Thank you

Hi Jennifer. Your address does not pop up as an option because your building is not scheduled for fumigation and is not expected to be fumigated within the next several months or so. Detached garage buildings are expected to be fumigated on a separate date after the residences. However, we do not yet have exact dates for either your residence or garage building. You will receive a letter from your board of directors with those details once they have been confirmed.

As soon as you find out please let me know how much time / how many days between tenting stacked unit home and garage … as I stated I am planning on installing flooring after tenting and since belongings have been removed it makes it easier for installers …. and I don’t want to move back in until old carpet is removed after being saturated with chemicals ! I’m very sensitive to all chemicals …….who ever is deciding please make it at least a couple weeks or more …. PLEASE ACCOMMODATE …. would be SOOO very grateful …

Hi Ozzie and Giselle, a homeowner asked about locked filing drawer cabinets — do these need to be unlocked for the pre- and post-inspections when the homeowner vacates the home for fumigation?

    Reply

Hi Mari. File cabinets are best left unlocked. Should an inspector from the agricultural department arrive to the job site and find the cabinet locked, they could potentially cancel the fumigation.

Suitcases can stay closed assuming they are not wrapped in plastic. Edible items in waxed containers should be removed or double-bagged using only Nylofume bags. Remember that the only exceptions to the bagging rule are factory sealed glass containers and factory sealed metal cans.

Will the formal tenting/fumigation notification letter from Accurate Termite be hand-delivered to each home, or will it be mailed to each homeowner/resident, or both? Also, if the home is rented to tenants, who should sign the Accurate online forms, the homeowner or the tenant? Or both?

    Reply
    • Ozzie Camacho

A copy will be posted to each individual unit by Accurate as a courtesy to the board. Either the board or management is responsible for mailing a copy out to each resident and offsite owner when their unit is scheduled for fumigation. Tenants should be the first to sign the forms. Landlords are also encouraged to sign and familiarize themselves with what is required of their tenants.

Sorry, one more “food prep” question — what about toiletries and personal hygene items in the bathrooms, including items/containers that have already been opened, like shampoos, liquid soaps, facial creams, etc.

Can these personal toiletry items be left as-is in the home during fumigation? Or do they also need to be bagged in the Nylofume bags?

And I am guessing that cleaning products and liquid dish soaps and laundry detergents do not need to be bagged in the Nylofume bags since they are not food items?

    Reply
    • Ozzie Camacho

All hygiene and cosmetic products do not need to be removed or double bagged as they are not considered edible.

      Reply
  27. Mari Fujii

For food prep — I understand that canned goods (like canned tomatos) and food items in the original, sealed glass containers (like jars of olives) do not need to be bagged in the Nylofume bags provided by Accurate.

But what about canned sodas or beers, or bottled beers, or bottled water? Can those be left alone in our pantry/closets and not bagged in the Nylofume bags?

And I guess any containers containing plain water can be left as-is and not bagged, even if the container with water has already been opened?

    Reply
    • Ozzie Camacho

Hi Mari. Canned sodas and beers can stay as is only if the factory seal is still intact. The same goes for beer bottles. Water and ice can stay as is regardless of their container.

      Reply
      • Mari F

Thanks! And I guess that goes for unopened wine bottles — they too do not need to be bagged and can stay as-is, even if they are in those wine refrigerators — that unopened wine bottles with their unsealed corks can remain as-is?
